In addition, I have worked in several senior management roles and currently work as leader in Improvement within healthcare. Throughout all of these roles, Reflective Practice has been an integral part of my practice.
More recently I’ve been on the lookout for different ways to support my reflective practice. My experience has taught me that the traditional way of writing and filling in templates has restricted my personal learning. It feels such a tick box experience, not really helping me to develop my professional practice.
It all changed during the pandemic. I felt totally overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work alongside my PhD studies. I was struggling to find the right words to describe what I was experiencing and so in need of some quiet space, I found a few scraps of fabric and just started sewing them together.

It all changed during the pandemic. I felt totally overwhelmed by the sheer amount of work alongside my PhD studies. I was struggling to find the right words to describe what I was experiencing and so in need of some quiet space, I found a few scraps of fabric and just started sewing them together.

I soon realised that what I was creating could show exactly what I was experiencing. I also really started to enjoy the time spent reflecting, thinking in such a different way about my experience.
No more templates and tick boxes for me!
I have continued to do my reflections using fabric, sewing and embroidery and am now in a position to share and pass on the skills to others so they can both develop their learning and thinking skills as well as taking some personal time for self-care and compassion. I have continued to do my reflections using fabric, sewing and embroidery and am now in a position to share and pass on the skills to others so they can both develop their learning and thinking skills as well as taking some personal time for self-care and compassion. This can be in person, one to one, team or the option of attending workshops; all sessions tailored and designed to suit your needs. No prior experience in sewing is required as instruction will be provided.
My next workshop is in January 2025,
themed on "Self-care".
Emerge from the depths of winter with this workshop, focussing on embracing the season of Spring.
At the workshop you'll be provided with all of the material you need to be creative and design your reflection.
